The Heart of a Father: Fathers' Day 2026.

The heart of a father

Fathers’ Day June 20th, 2026, Pst. Silas.

·       When my daughter was born, in Kenya, they kicked me out of the delivery room right before she was born then they called me immediately after she was born. I had  sat by the door there in the delivery room. Something happened when I looked at her; she was so little, beautiful and looking extremely delicate. I had never seen a newborn baby before, I felt tears in me and I suddenly asked myself,” has God trusted me with her , solittle and delicate to take care of her and raise her all her life?” it felt a great honor from God. It has been the best thing in my life.

·       The three guys are the best thing to happen in my life. They are my best friends, you will envy my life when you see Dora, bidding me goodbye until the vehicle leaves the neighborhood, she has been running down since she was 5 years, just to say goodbye. I drive off in tears when I see her waving on rainy or cold days, Nate giving me a million hugs while I lay in bed about to leave and Miah making sure I get tea soon after arriving home. You should hear them telling me   I did even after preaching, ”daddy that was a good sermon, daddy you blinked a lot today……

·       They have taught me to love in a way I never knew before. I know love better because of them.  I always joked with friends that though my daughter was less than one year then, but she controlled my work schedule and future plans. I DECLINED TO JOIN the military after spending the day thinking how I could survive six months deployment without seeing her. Then later, I wanted to be a truck driver, and someone told me you will be on the road for a week up to three without coming home, again I declines because I thought that was too long. I became a nurse, because I believed I would be able to see them every day, I later changed my schedules because I couldn’t see them early enough. I wanted to see them before they go to school and be there to sit with them as they do their school assignments.

·       Sometimes I would be over speeding on the road because I missed them so much after a 12-day shift, despite talking with them on the phone.

·       What a blessing it has been to be a father?

The father should be a Model of unconditional love.

The Parable of the Lost Son

Luke 15:11 Jesus continued: “There was a man who had two sons. 12 The younger one said to his father, Father, give me my share of the estate.’ So, he divided his property between them.

·       Beware of fathers who will live only debts to the children. Prov 13:22

13 “Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living. 14 After he had spent everything, there was a severe famine in that whole country, and he began to be in need. 15 So he went and hired himself out to a citizen of that country, who sent him to his fields to feed pigs. 16 He longed to fill his stomach with the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one gave him anything.

17 “When he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! 18 I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. 19 I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired servants.’ 20 So he got up and went to his father.

“But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.

21 “The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’

22 “But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. 23 Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. 24 For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So, they began to celebrate.

The father is a model of calmness and peace in his house

Ephesians 6:4“Fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath; but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord”

·       Over the years, I have learned to not just tell my children what they should do but demonstrate to them. I ask for their forgiveness when I realize I was the one on the wrong.

·       I change my thinking if they argue their case better.

·       Be the first one to stop shouting if there is an argument.

·       Be the humble one when there is an argument.

The father is the spiritual voice and foundation of the family.

Genesis 49 Then Jacob called for his sons and said: “Gather around so I can tell you what will happen to you in days to come.“Assemble and listen, sons of Jacob; listen to your father Israel.

·       He would later prophesy the return of the children of Israel to Canaan by saying bring my bones back to our land.

·       Jesse must have taught his sons the ways of God, I cannot imagine any other ways David could be after the heart of God at that early age.

·       Joseph dad actions defined who joseph became, the coat of many colors made him know he belonged to the royalty.

·       Abraham stood as the father of faith, became a friend of God and a model of blessings; whoever you bless I will bless.

There is a Spiritual Defining authority of a father.

Genesis 27: 37 Isaac answered and said to Esau, “Behold, I have made him lord over you, and all his brothers I have given to him for servants, and with grain and wine I have sustained him. What then can I do for you, my son?” 38 Esau said to his father, “Have you but one blessing, my father? Bless me, even me also, O my father.” And Esau lifted up his voice and wept.39 Then Isaac his father answered and said to him: “Behold, away from[b] the fatness of the earth shall your dwelling be,    and away from[c] the dew of heaven on high.40 By your sword you shall live,    and you shall serve your brother; but when you grow restless    you shall break his yoke from your neck.”

·       Jacob made Joseph royal.

·       Noah made Canaan a slave Genesis 9:20-25 Noah began to be a man of the soil, and he planted a vineyard.[a] 21 He drank of the wine and became drunk and lay uncovered in his tent. 22 And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father and told his two brothers outside. 23 Then Shem and Japheth took a garment, laid it on both their shoulders, and walked backward and covered the nakedness of their father. Their faces were turned backward, and they did not see their father's nakedness. 24 When Noah awoke from his wine and knew what his youngest son had done to him, 25 he said, “Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be to his brothers.”

·       Great men were close to their fathers, David and joseph are seen running errands for their father. Gedeon is griding family wheat.

Remember that the blessing flow from the heart of a full stomach

·       Be intentional in making your father happy.

Gen 27: 25-29  Then he said, “My son, bring me some of your game to eat, so that I may give you my blessing.”

Jacob brought it to him and he ate; and he brought some wine and he drank. 26 Then his father Isaac said to him, “Come here, my son, and kiss me.”

27 So he went to him and kissed him. When Isaac caught the smell of his clothes, he blessed him and said, “Ah, the smell of my son is like the smell of a field that the Lord has blessed.you of the dew of heaven    and of the fatness of the earth    and plenty of grain and wine.29 Let peoples serve you,    and nations bow down to you.Be lord over your brothers,    and may your mother's sons bow down to you.Cursed be everyone who curses you,    and blessed be everyone who blesses you!”

Sometimes you may feel deficient as a father.

Judges 13:8 Manoah, the father of Samson, prayed to the Lord: “O Lord, please let the man of God whom You sent come again to us and teach us what we shall do for the child who will be born”

·       We may undermine our authority. Just remind yourself.

·       We may feel we are not playing our role.

·       Just pray to the greatest father of all.

  • Remember it is God who has given you that mandate as a father.

Everlasting Father
