Pst. Silas. Building Leaders Around You.

Numbers 27:18-21 So the Lord said to Moses, “Take Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit of leadership,[a] and lay your hand on him. 19 Have him stand before Eleazar the priest and the entire assembly and commission him in their presence. 20 Give him some of your authority so the whole Israelite community will obey him. 21 He is to stand before Eleazar the priest, who will obtain decisions for him by inquiring of the Urim before the Lord. At his command he and the entire community of the Israelites will go out, and at his command they will come in.”

o   Appreciate.

o   Believe that they won’t do their embarrassed.

o   Praise the accomplishments.

o   Your personal responsibility to them as leader.

If you want to be a successful leader, you must develop other leaders around you.

You may have the vision, and you will have the big picture, but you need leaders around you to make that picture real.

So many leaders surround themselves with followers, but if you surround yourself with other leaders you will grow.

Some leaders feel threatened by capable leaders around them, so they are more comfortable with followers.

·         Followers tell you what you want to hear, but the leaders tell you what you need to hear. [David and his soldiers at old age-you cannot go to battle with us]

leaders tell you what you need to hear.

2 Samuel 21:15-17 Wars Against the Philistines

15 Once again there was a battle between the Philistines and Israel. David went down with his men to fight against the Philistines, and he became exhausted. 16 And Ishbi-Benob, one of the descendants of Rapha, whose bronze spearhead weighed three hundred shekels[a] and who was armed with a new sword, said he would kill David. 17 But Abishai son of Zeruiah came to David’s rescue; he struck the Philistine down and killed him. Then David’s men swore to him, saying, “Never again will you go out with us to battle, so that the lamp of Israel will not be extinguished

·         It takes a leader to grow a leader. because leaders attract leaders.

·         Leaders create an environment that attract potentially leaders.

·         Leaders are not threatened by people with great potential

When you surround yourself with the leaders, they add greater value to your church or organization, your burden is lighter and t

Followers tell you what you need to hear.

1 Kings 12:9-14 He asked them, “What is your advice? How should we answer these people who say to me, ‘Lighten the yoke your father put on us’?”

10 The young men who had grown up with him replied, “These people have said to you, ‘Your father put a heavy yoke on us, but make our yoke lighter.’ Now tell them, ‘My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist. 11 My father laid on you a heavy yoke; I will make it even heavier. My father scourged you with whips; I will scourge you with scorpions.’”

12 Three days later Jeroboam and all the people returned to Rehoboam, as the king had said, “Come back to me in three days.” 13 The king answered the people harshly. Rejecting the advice given him by the elders, 14 he followed the advice of the young men and said, “My father made your yoke heavy; I will make it even heavier. My father scourged you with whips; I will scourge you with scorpions.

They help you carry on with the vision and enlarge it.

Who will take your place? for posterity?

David and Solomon, VS Solomon, and Rehoboam. 1 Kgs 11:43.

David prepared and mentored Solomon to be king, but Solomon in all his wisdom did not mentor a king after him. Rehoboam was only able to lead one tribe.

Moses and Joshua VS Joshua and Judah.

After the death of Joshua, the people were left asking God, who will be our leaders?

Judges 1:1-8 After the death of Joshua, the Israelites asked the Lord, “Who of us is to go up first to fight against the Canaanites?”2 The Lord answered, “Judah shall go up; I have given the land into their hands.”

  • Moses and Jethro.

  • Moses and Joshua.

  • Elijah and Elisha.

  • Deborah and Barak.

There is no success without a successor.

Leaders produce leaders who could produce other leaders.

Leaders create and inspire new leaders by installing faith in the leadership ability and helping them develop and the bone leadership skills. They don’t know they possess.

“great organizations may have great lenders and structure, but I have never seen great organization that had a great structure and a poor leader” George Barner.

“you can take my factories, burn up my buildings, but give me my people, and I won’t bring my business right back again.” Henry Ford.

  • Please note those closest to the leader will determine the success level of that leader.

  • The people close to me, make or break me.

Think about five or six people close to you in the organization, are you developing them? Do you have a game plan for them?

Are they growing? How much have they been able to lift you are Load?

Grow leaders and you grow the church,

Marketing is good, great programs are good, and great structures are beautiful but real growth will come from leadership growth.

-Most people produce only when they feel like it, leaders produce even when they don’t feel like it.

Moses was the greatest leader in the old testament, can you imagine relocating about 1.5 million complaining people all by yourself? It was hard and tiring.

The problem, He was trying to do it all by himself. He was the chief executive, judge, Secretary, Pastor, admin, everything.

“Success is the maximum utilization of the ability that you have.” Zig Zigler.

I once told a complaining pastor, that all the people in the church, their money, their education and their knowledge is a resource that God had given him to build the kingdom. How he uses the resources matter.

  • A leader’s success is the maximum utilization of the abilities of those around him.

Do not be intimidated, you are the authority.

Andrew Carnegie, said when he dies, he wanted his epitaph to read,” here, lies a man who was wise enough to bring into his service men who knew more than he”

            ◦      A leader success is the maximum utilization of the ability of the sound.

Build the right atmosphere.

o   Appreciate.

o   Believe in them and show your confidence in them.

o   Praise the accomplishments.

o   Your personal responsibility to them as leader.

Jesus and the disciples were the greatest example of mentorship, he spent time with them. He clarifies issues with them. He rebuked them. he encouraged them and sent them out on their own at times. His last statement showed great confidence in them.

Matthew 10:1–4. He sent them out.

Matthew 28:16-20 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

“I am always amused when other agencies try to hire my people away. They’ve had to have to hire the all environment. For a flower to blossom, you need the right soil as well as the right seed.” Advertising executive William Bernbach.
