FAITH AND SACRIFICE
Philippians 2:17 But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service coming from your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you.
· "It is your faith that makes you offer your life as a living sacrifice to serving God."
· Evaluate your faith in God and resolve to demonstrate your faith through sacrifice.
Hebrews 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
· “Any faith that costs nothing is worth nothing” Rick Warren.
2 Samuel 24:24 And the king said unto Araunah, Nay; but I will surely buy it of thee at a price: neither will I offer burnt offerings unto the Lord my God of that which doth cost me nothing. So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.
· Sacrificial giving is not about how much you gave, its about the percentage you gave-Sacrifice.
Mark 12:43 and he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, that this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:
Prayer
"God, I will sacrifice my desires and dreams for what I think is going to make me happy in order to fulfill Your purposes in this world in my life, in my church and in my world."
In this you will receive more than you could ever have imagined in terms of happiness and significance because you can't out give God.
· Life is composed of trade-offs.
Jesus said you find your life by giving it away. Life is composed of trade-offs.
· You can't do everything. What am I going to do with my life?
· What contribution are you going to make with your life?
· What I’m I going to do with the limited the time I got left on earth.
The greatest use of your life is to invest it in something that's going to outlast it, which is the kingdom of God, the purposes of God.
· A wise man will give up what He cannot keep for that which He cannot lose.
One day when we all get to heaven, we won't be there five minutes before we say, "It wasn't much of a sacrifice compared to what we've received out of this."
Sacrifice DEMONSTRATES fear and honor of God
Geb 22: 11-22 Then he reached out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. 11 But the angel of the Lord called out to him from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!” “Here I am,” he replied.12 “Do not lay a hand on the boy,” he said. “Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.”
· Abraham didn’t know God will save the boy.
· He didn’t think that” let me sacrifice him and God will give me another one”
· He just had the fear of God.
Sacrifice DEMONSTRATES trust IN THE WORD of God
1 Kings 17:14-16 For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the Lord sends rain on the land.’”15 She went away and did as Elijah had told her. So there was food every day for Elijah and for the woman and her family. 16 For the jar of flour was not used up and the jug of oil did not run dry, in keeping with the word of the Lord spoken by Elijah.
· She trusted the words of the prophet.
· Before he arrived, she had given up but when he said it will never cease.
· She just obeyed in trust.
· She made this loaf with confidence, “the Lord God has spoken.
SACRIFICE DEMONSTRATES OUR FAITH IN GOD.
Hebrews 11:24-25 By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. 25 He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin.
sacrifice demonstrates obedience to god.
Matthew 26:39 Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”
Different ways to sacrifice.
1. MATERIAL WEALTH:
The irony of the Wealthy who trust God with their life but shy with their property.
Luke 18:18 A certain ruler asked him, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”19 “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone. 20 You know the commandments: ‘You shall not commit adultery, you shall not murder, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, honor your father and mother.’[a]”21 “All these I have kept since I was a boy,” he said.
22 When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
23 When he heard this, he became very sad, because he was very wealthy. 24 Jesus looked at him and said, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God! 25 Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”
· This man like so many Christians, he wanted God but holding back his material wealth.
2. Services.
2 Corinthians 11:23-27 I have worked much harder, been in prison more frequently, been flogged more severely, and been exposed to death again and again. 24 Five times I received from the Jews the forty lashes minus one. 25 Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was pelted with stones, three times I was shipwrecked, I spent a night and a day in the open sea, 26 I have been constantly on the move. I have been in danger from rivers, in danger from bandits, in danger from my fellow Jews, in danger from Gentiles; in danger in the city, in danger in the country, in danger at sea; and in danger from false believers. 27 I have labored and toiled and have often gone without sleep; I have known hunger and thirst and have often gone without food; I have been cold and naked.
· Sacrificial service must go behode your comfort.
Pastor Han Chung-Ryeol was a courageous Christian leader in Changbai, China, who helped North Korean refugees despite grave risks. He was tragically murdered by North Korean agents, leaving a lasting legacy of faith and service.
“A North Korean Christian sent this note to a VOM worker after the pastor’s death: “When I heard that [Pastor Han] died a miserable death, I thought you would hate North Korean people and probably never see North Korean people again. However, you still remember and support us. How I appreciate you! … I keep praying to God how Pastor Han taught us to pray, and I feel that God really loves us. I thank God to help us, not to give up on us in the midst of the difficulties.” The voice of the martyrs.
3. Your own body.
· Sacrifice your comfort to serve God.
· Your flesh desire in honor to God’s word.
· Live a Holy life.
Romans 12:1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.
Isaiah 66:1-3 This is what the Lord says: “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. Where is the house you will build for me? Where will my resting place be?2 Has not my hand made all these things, and so they came into being? “Declares the Lord. “These are the ones I look on with favor: those who are humble and contrite in spirit, and who tremble at my word.
Psalms 51: 16-17 You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings.17 My sacrifice, O God, is[b] a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise.
Results of sacrifice.
Gen 4:4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the Lord had respect unto Abel and to his offering:
1. God’s Favor :
Shadrach Misheck and Abednego, Israelites, Hannah, joseph,
· A man reapeth what he saweth………
2. Makes you a friend of God.
Isaiah 41:8 “But you, Israel, my servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, you descendants of Abraham my friend,
· He sacrificed his family, familiar ground and wanted to sacrifice his son in obedience to God.
he became a friend of God, who made everlasting covenants with God.
God notified him before destruction of Sodom and even gave him an opportunity to intercede on the behalf of the saints there.
sacrifice can make you a friend of God and establish you as a reference point for the blessings of God in your family.
3. Transformed into the image of God
John 12:24 Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.
Sacrifice is dying to self for the glory of God.
Christ will be better seen this way.
His will, will be better revealed in your life this way.
