Christians talk about victory, but they don’t always live in it. To live victoriously, you need to understand the blood covenant God made with you when you were saved.
The whole Bible is about the blood covenant. All Bible promises are covenant promises.
What is Blood covenant?
v A blood covenant is a solemn, binding agreement established and sealed by the shedding of the blood.
v In ancient days the blood covenant carried a deep sense of seriousness and irrevocability marking the highest level of commitment between parties.
v In scripture the blood covenant is portrayed as unbreakable bond that connects God and church through the sacred promise
v It is unbreakable sacred agreement sealed by the blood of Jesus Christ establishing new covenant for redemption, forgiveness and inheritance guaranteeing God’s promises that brings blessings healing and victory making believers partakers of divine nature.
v Covenant literally means “to cut a covenant.” In Old Testament we’ve seen two people making a blood covenant by cutting an incision on their wrists, joining hands, and lifting them to heaven in a promise, a covenant, a co-mingling of lives.
The scar remaining was called “the mark of the covenant.” If you don’t realize Almighty God is in a covenant with you, you’ll never live in victory.
SPIRITUAL SIGNIFICANCE OF BLOOD COVENANT
1.Blood represents life, Sacrifice and covenant………. lev 17:11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.’
Source of Life: Just as blood gives physical life (, the blood of Jesus gives spiritual life and vitality to the believer's spirit.
Ø So, when you engage the Blood, you're engaging the life of the owner, Jesus Christ and that life is indestructible.
Ø It provides complete atonement for sin
Ø It offers access to God and eternal life
Ø It provides victory over spiritual enemies.
2.The blood covenant Forms unbreakable bond between parties
I Samuel 18:1
1Now when he had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.
2. Saul took him that day and would not let him go home to his father’s house anymore.
3. Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul.
4. And Jonathan took off the robe that was on him and gave it to David, with his armor, even to his sword and his bow and his belt.
3 Restoration and inheritance
Biblical illustration…
2 Samuel 9:1 (NKJV): 9 Now David said, “Is there still anyone who is left of the house of Saul, that I may show him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?”
One day, King David was thinking about his covenant with Jonathan. He wondered if a member of Jonathan’s family could possibly still be alive. Some people in the court were probably thinking, “Here it comes…we knew a purge would begin.” But David wanted to fulfill His covenant with Jonathan. Learning about Mephibosheth, he wanted to bless and show kindness to him (2 Samuel 9:1). David said, Go fetch him. Bring him to me.
Jonathan had a little son named Mephibosheth. When his nurse heard of Jonathan’s death, she grabbed the boy to take him to safety in a desert wasteland called Lo-Debar. She didn’t know about the blood covenant between David and Jonathan. In haste, she dropped little Mephibosheth and fell on him, crippling him for life.
How many times must the child have asked her,
“Why am I here?”“Because someone’s trying to kill you.”“Why am I crippled?”“Because we were running from him.”“What’s going to happen?”“You better hope he never finds you.”
Mephibosheth grew up with this lesson ingrained: fear David, hate David.
There he was, dragging his crippled limbs, eating dust, breathing dust, drinking from a tin cup, a prince in exile.
Out of the palace thundered the royal troops.
Out they went to Lo-Debar
Imagine Mephibosheth, he saw the royal troops right to his door.
“Oh no! He’s found me!”They push open the door. “Are you Mephibosheth?”“Yes.”“Come with us.”“Why?”“The king wants you.”
Mephibosheth lowers his eyes to the ground, looking one last time at the dirt floor under his crippled feet. As the horse beneath him jostles him away, he looks back at the only home he could remember. Desolate though it was, he had been safe there.
As they bring him before King David, we might wonder if he had any memory of the palace as it had been. Was he thinking of the life he lost? Casting his crutches aside, he fell on his face, trembling like a bird in a trap. But David immediately said,
Do not fear, for I will surely show you kindness for Jonathan your father’s sake and will restore to you all the land of Saul your grandfather; and you shall eat bread at my table continually. (2 Samuel 9:7)
To one expecting death, David said, I’m restoring your inheritance. Dine at my table and be like my son.
Mephibosheth could hardly take it in. “Why would you return my inheritance? Have me eat at your table? Be as your son?” Here, David explains,
It’s not because of anything on your part.
It’s because of blood covenant of love with Jonathan. And for his sake, I’m keeping our blood covenant.
But he’s no longer out of fellowship with the king; he’s in fellowship. No longer running from David, he’s running to David. He has a decision to make. He must:
ratify the covenant
change his mind about David (repentance)
accept the covenant by faith.
4..-Restored Relationship and Intimacy with God: marking the begging of beginnings-
The covenant bridges the gap between God and humanity, offering direct access to God's presence and an intimate, l relationship.
Now the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying, 2 “This month shall be your beginning of months; it shall be the first month of the year to you. 3 Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying: ‘On the tenth of this month every man shall take for himself a lamb, according to the house of his father, a lamb for a household. 4 eat it: [c]with a belt on your waist, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand. So, you shall eat it in haste. It is the Lord’s Passover.
12 ‘For I will pass through the land of Egypt on that night and will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the Lord. 13 Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.
14 ‘So, this day shall be to you a memorial; and you shall keep it as a feast to the Lord throughout your generations. You shall keep it as a feast by an everlasting ordinance.
. 36 And the Lord had given the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they granted them what they requested. Thus, they plundered the Egyptians.
43 And the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “This is the ordinance of the Passover: No foreigner shall eat it. 44 But every man’s servant who is bought for money, when you have circumcised him, then he may eat it. 45 A sojourner and a hired servant shall not eat it. 46 In one house it shall be eaten; you shall not carry any of the flesh outside the house, nor shall you break one of its bones.
47 All the the native-born and for the stranger who dwells among you.”
50 Thus all the children of Israel did; as the Lord commanded Moses and Aaron, so they did. 51 And it came to pass, on that very same day, that the Lord brought the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt according to their armies.
